MUSIC FROM A PARALLEL WORLD VOL. 3
NEW MUSIC FOR VIOLIN
It is well known that, of all musical instruments, the violin, along with the piano, represents a real challenge. This is both because of its centuries-long history, and because it constantly defi es composers and interpreters alike, who, after each single concert, invariably react with a sort of relieved (and not exactly subdued) “I did it!” Some contemporary elements should also be considered: the typical twentieth-century dictates and the remarkable revolutions the century has brought about in the instrument’s technique. Both aspects have further increased the urge to overcome the instrument’s inherent limitations.
Several track on this CD, like Arnoldi’s Capriccio I, Loraschi’s Magma or Koch’s Carvings, are perfect examples of how ongoing compositional research managed to match the violin’s effect to the musical idea without surrendering to solutions that are either spectacular in the first track, syncretic in the second and almost “ambient” in the third.
The remaining tracks are not less interesting, since each of them truly sets a personal, subjective path within this world, with a common denominator in the search for a stronger voice for the violin, constantly echoed in the personality of each single composer. The “Music from A Parallel World” project could not be complete without this instrument, and unexpectedly comes with the hope for an ideal continuation, precisely by virtue of the instrument’s endless desire for exploration and creation.
